Aotearoa’s freshwater fish fauna is unique and diverse, with a large majority of our species being endemic to New Zealand (meaning they are only found here).
Careful fish management is required to enable works in streams whilst protecting this precious taonga. Authorisations are required to be able to handle, hold, and transfer these valuable freshwater fish species.
BTW has been granted permits from the Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) to take aquatic life and relocate them to a suitable habitat within the same waterbody for any instream works across Aotearoa. This means that we can assist with your project without the need to wait for lengthy permit applications, whether it’s at the top of the North Island or the bottom of the South Island! Come talk to our team regarding any of your proposed instream activities, as we can support you with fish management and monitoring activities, ecological assessments, consenting, surveying and engineering requirements to facilitate such works.
Please note, MPI permits do not remove the need for Department of Conservation (DOC) or Fish and Game authorisations, where required.
