Following on from the Around the Mountain relay, over the weekend, BTW had an action packed time in the Waikato.
Westpac Waikato Business Awards 2020 on Friday night, which saw BTW get through to the judges round for our entry to the Innovation category. Congratulations goes out MEA Mobile for winning this category.
BTW Company competed in the annual Dragon Boat ‘Super 12’ regatta held on Saturday, an event run by Waikato Dragonboat and Waka Ama Association as a fund raiser and is generally hotly contested by local businesses and school/junior teams. Of course there are a number of club teams from the north, south, east and west that also like to use this event as a build up to the upcoming dragon boat season for bragging rights, needless to say, it is meant to be a social event .
As it is shown in the photos of the day, the weather was great and the family friendly environment allowed for some staff members to bring out the competitive spirit in them and support the event. BTW put on a mighty effort for the day, with the limited practice they had, but alas, could not podium in their final of the day. I’m sure in the subsequent years, BTW will be a force to be reckoned with and will beat the NZTA team that, well, ‘smashed em bro’, in our final. Thanks to those who participated and look forward to next year!
Sunday was the 75th Anniversary of the Round the Bridges running race which Sir Peter Snell has previously won. BTW had 9 runner/walkers in the 6/12 km events around the Waikato awa bridges including NZ athlete Craig Barrett that ran (not walked) for our team, as a fill in.BTW Tima Tere team had Dean Sandwell run a fast 28 minute 6km with great efforts in hot conditions for all the whole team. The Taphouse and Gourmet in the Gardens was a great way to finish the weekend and reflect on our efforts.
